About Koh Phangan are recordings existing and saying the first settlement on the island has started likely with Muslim Sea gypsies more than 2000 years ago.

Around 200 years ago the Chinese did come to this island and started doing business in producing coconut oil for exportation and harvesting tin mines.

The tourist business just started about 20 years ago with building the first bungalows on this island and it continues until now.
